Becoming an airline pilot
In order to become an airline pilot you first have to learn how to fly.
There are basically two ways of doing this. Either train with the military or take private flying lessons.
With you PPL you can go fly Cessnas to your heart's content, but little else.
Becoming an airline pilot once you have a private pilot's licence first involves getting a commercial pilot's licence.
This involves between 9 and 36 months of study and a minimum of 150 hours
flying training for the
CPLor 195 hours for the ATPL.
Now that you have a CPL you should go on and complete the theory qualifications for Airline Transport Pilot'sLicence (ATPL) if you ever want to captain a 747.
You must also pass a CAA Class One Medical and actually get a job with a commercial airline.
Only then will you be able to pull on the cap and badge that marks you out
as a commercial airline Pilot.
